The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) is a Federal Government Intervention of 1% consolidated revenue to be used in support of Primary Health Centers (Decentralized Facility Financing [DFF]) in areas such as infrastructural development, transportation, purchase of seed drugs among others.
In Kogi State, the BHCPF is expected to support one (1) Health Facility per political ward and there are 239 wards in the State. Enumerators and Supervisors therefore had to be trained on the use of ODK application and how to administer the checklist ensuring that all priority areas are captured in detail with minimal errors.
The BHCPF Assessment of the selected 239 Health Facilities is expected to assess priority areas such as: Administrative system and infrastructure, financial system, Human Resource Management, Laboratory, Minimum drugs and commodities, Health Management Information system, Utilization and clinical outcomes and Community involvement. There was mock health facility assessment in selected facilities around Lokoja using the ODK checklist.
The training was scheduled to hold between 24th – 28th August, 2020 at Halims Hotel and Towers, Lokoja.
Facilitators of the training were from National Primary Health Care Development Agency and National Health Insurance Scheme while Participants were drawn from the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), State Health Insurance Agency (SHIA), State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and other stakeholder MDAs.
The Executive Director Kogi State PHCDA – Dr Abubakar Yakubu in his welcome address appreciated the National team for the support rendered to the state to partake of the BHCPF and urged participants to embrace the training and give it their best when on the field because the data generated would be needed by all MDAs working with and related to primary health care and any errors made would be difficult to rectify after now. So, all must carefully observe and give appropriate responses to the checklist as required. The ED added that the benefits to be derived from the BHCPF cannot be overemphasized as the 239 primary health centers (one per ward in the State) will immensely boost PHC services to the people.
The Executive Secretary, State Health Insurance Agency – Dr Aledare Adekunle added his voice to the appeal for the enumerators to do a thorough job and ensure a close to perfect job while the collaboration with the SPHCDA continues to see to Kogi State’s inclusion in the list of States benefiting from the BHCPF.
The field work commences from August 31 – September 4, 2020.
On a lighter note, participants joined to celebrate the birthday commemoration of the State Coordinator NPHCDA – Mr Folayan Idowu at the close of Day 4 of the training. We all wished him more fruitful and blessed years in the future.
