The bustling city of Lokoja was astir as government officials, health professionals, pregnant women and well wishers converged at the Old Market Primary Health Centre, Lokoja on Tuesday,10th August 2021 for the flag-off ceremony of Senator Smart Adeyemi’s Health Insurance Program for pregnant women in Kogi West Senatorial District targeted to cover 1000 pregnant women.
The ceremony was anchored by the State Health Insurance Agency and Chaired by the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr (Mrs) Folashade Arike Ayoade.
In her address, the SSG celebrated the sponsor of the initiative, Sen. Smart Adeyemi for his contribution to bringing safety to motherhood. She added that no woman deserves to lose her life or that of her child during pregnancy or at labour. Therefore the initiative of Sen Smart to serve humanity by contributing to safe motherhood is not only welcome but greatly appreciated.
The SSG on a lighter note advised the women “please do not start giving birth every year now ooo because Sen. Smart is supporting your health insurance. Go for family planning and enjoy a better family life”.
The Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr Saka Audu gave a goodwill message amongst others.
“One of our own, Distinguished Senator Adeyemi has brought succor to 1000 pregnant women across Western senatorial district of Kogi state. The scheme will reduce incidence of Maternal and infant mortality to the barest minimum”.
