It is no longer news that Nigeria has taken delivery of the first batch of about 4 Million COVID vaccines, also called AstraZeneca COVID vaccine-and plans are underway to distribute same to all the States of the Federation. Ahead of the arrival of the vaccines, training had been on-going at the National level on the strategies to vaccination.
The NPHCDA came up with T.E.A.C.H. STRATEGY: An indigenous approach to COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria.
T – Traditional Vaccination campaign roll-out
E – Electronic self-registration by Eligible Nigerians
A – Assisted Electronic registration of Eligible Nigerians
C – Concomitant vaccination alongside electronic registration
H – House –to – House Electronic registration.
The NPHCDA through the States to commence vaccination of Nigerians in priority groups, starting with frontline Health Workers and ensure that that cold chain facilities are ready at all levels in accordance with the required temperature.
Kogi State commenced 2 days training of STOT today 5th March, 2021 and thereafter to cascade same to Health Facility Health Workers at the various LGAS. The training programme is aimed at updating the skills of the Health Workers in effective handling, storage and administration of COVID19 Vaccines
The Executive Director KGSPHCDA – Dr Abubakar Yakubu while addressing the participants at the training implored them to debunk the social media propaganda surrounding the COVID19 vaccines. He enjoined the participants/Health Workers to take advantage of the opportunity provided to protect themselves and curb the spread of COVID-19. “We believe in the mercies of God who has been keeping Kogites safe from COVID but it only makes sense that when a neighbours house is on fire, one needs to take prerequisite measures to forestall the fires from engulfing his own.
Let us look back at the struggle on Polio eradication and Yellow fever vaccinations. Persons who have refused to take the vaccines when they were provided have suffered various levels of deformity and death which many regret today, simply because they were adamant or brainwashed from taking vaccines that could save their lives in the future.”
It is important to bring to the fore that to register for covid19 vaccination, visit the website www.nphcda.gov.ng and click on ‘COVID-19 vaccination E-registration’. The e-registration link will enable Nigerians personally register themselves, obtain their pre-vaccination numbers and schedule their preferred date and time for vaccination.
